S ridiculous but I ve been staring at this review for two days I keep hoping inspiration will strike and I ll come up with some fabulously witty introduction something that xplains my interest in Lizzy Chandler s Snowy River Man but I ve got nothing I picked it up because I wanted a bit of light reading My brain was fried and having just come off Mitchell Zuckoff s Lost in Shangri la I needed something that wouldn t reuire too much concentration on my part To be fair Chandler s is very indicative of the genre The writing and basic story line are straightforward and Kiss of Surrender (Deadly Angels, easy to follow The content is light predictable and plays beautifully into the romantic optimism that characterizes contemporary romance In certain circles I see Snowy River Man doing uite well I m just not part of that demographic To be perfectly honest the implausibility of the premise andxaggerated situational drama didn t appeal to me Many The Weirdstone of Brisingamen elements of the story felt too coincidental Nick annoyed me to nond and his relationship with Katrina felt awkward and forced The plot hole surrounding a private investigator didn t sit well with me and I didn t like how often Chandler felt it necessary to reiterate well stablished conceptsWhen push comes to shove Snow River Man wasn t suited to my tastes and I feel cheated of the time I spent with it I can appreciate the success it might njoy with less particular readers but it s not a title I see myself recommending forward It was the titlele sigh Ever since a certain movie released and had such sweeping scenery music and storyline I have been Rain (Paper Gods, enchanted by this region of Australia and the rugged life there I didn tven give the blurb than a glance which as many know this is so unlike me Thus I wasn t sure what to Winters Passage (The Iron Fey, expect but stillnded up with an interesting light romantic suspense and a brooding second chance romance that kept me reading through one sittingThe story opens with Jack and his son at the rodeo Jack takes his ride and discovers Nick missing It turns into a desperate all out search for a child Jack is frantic He loves his son and fears Into this atmosphere walks a woman from his past The sight of her makes him angry and her claim to have a psychic ability that allows her to find Nick is the only thing that keeps him from driving her away What does she want from him If its what he thinks it isbut no not that But through his anger and fear the attraction is still thereKatrina has visions that lead her to lost children and she has worked with the police before but this time it is the hardest decision she has The Replacement Wife ever made to involve herself Jack broke her heart and now she has a vision of his son He is hostile and she can t figure out what he has to be angry at her over Then after a fewncounters he suddenly changes his mind He wants her to stay and help with Nick he wants to know what she remembers of the past and wants to know about her gift She senses something momentous coming and Damned (Witch Hunt even if instinct tells her to run her heart wants to find out if there is still a chance This story is a contemporary romance with suspense and paranormallements The setting of the horse ranch is well drawn and definitely a plus It is told in alternating view points between Jack and Katrina The reader is privy to so much than the characters as a result because the story is a journey of two people who have to unwind the deceptions and misconceptions of the past if they are to have any peace with their future They are both The Bluebird Bet (Welcome to Tall Pines eual victims to someonelse s machinations but that doesn t change the impact of the conseuences falling on them I think that is what really drew me inThe suspenseful story plot is full of red herrings and a few possibilities for what is going on Was Nick in danger from someone Who let the stallion go and is undercutting Jack s bid for the proposal Is the old man living on the property innocent What of Jack s wife s family So many things swirling to keep the reader guessingThen the romance It was hard and would get worse before it could get better because of all the things from the past Jack has the dilemma of what to do with the knowledge when he learns the horrible truth He has to protect his son but what of Katrina He hurt her once and the truth though none of that was his fault will likely devastate her He doesn t want to lost this tentative second chance but he knows he will and it already hurtsAll in all it was a good story I was Hot-Blooded Italians engaged in it from the beginning and didn t want to stop reading Thending is rushed though it is complete It doesn t promise than it should based on where things are left I would recommend it for those who like their romance on the sweeter Mlynowski Teen Thriller end who like mild suspense and don t mind the psychiclementMy thanks first published novel by Lizzy Chandler I Philosophy of Religion enjoyed it on the whole and look forward to any books that she might publishI really liked the writing the sensory details that brought Outback Australia to life It was veryasy to visualise and imagine the landscape and characters There was an interesting array of characters Katrina and Jack of course Nick a young boy who goes missing and hankers for his mother An older man who lives in a run down cottage and an imperious but old lady Mrs Harrington who reminded me a little of Elizabeth Bligh in the Australian TV series A Place to Call Home The wisdom of the old man Murray Tom who said Be afraid and you ll find things to fear But look with loveI was not so sure about the various mix ups and the way the wool was pulled over Katrina s No Respect eyes I accepted it for the sake of the story but I wasn t atase with it I loved parts of this story and other parts just not so much Perhaps I am not a natural believer in psychics so that didn t helpIt was worth reading and while I have reservations I did The Spirituality Revolution enjoy this novella A first book by a new Australian author who writes rapid pace understood him better I related to Katrina s sense of betrayal and her indignation when she discovers the truth I was satisfied with the novel s conclusion and I can t wait to try books by Lizzy Chandler in the future I was particularlynad with the suspense and that such a full flavored story was jam packed into so few pages There were a few parts that could have been Structure Of The Nucleus amazing chemistry that s brilliantly complex for reasons that become clearer to the reader the further they get into the story From their one night stand Jack did see Katrina once afterward although it s not something she has a clear memory of and because of that he develops a misunderstanding about her He believes that Katrina may be a threat to him and his child but he s not willing to send her away just in case she really does provide the information that may help them find his son The I got into this story the I was surprised by several of the twists and turns and the ways in which Katrina s connections to other characters developed This isn t a long book but Chandler has made the most of her words and really been able to not only flesh out her characters and their motives but also a lovely and Safe in My Arms engaging setting in the Snowy Mountains I found Katrina a very sympathetic character who had not had anasy time of it Presunta colpevole especially recently Her dedication to using her gift for as much good as she can was admirable and she was willing to put herself through uncomfortable andmotionally painful and difficult situations in order to helpI m uite honestly a bit of a skeptic when it comes to psychic mediums and the like although I know police in real life have used clairvoyants and psychics to help locate missing children and solve crimes with some success However despite my tendency towards disbelief in such things I did not find that this at all affected my Poisoned Secrets (Murder and Mayhem enjoyment of this story and it wasasy to accept that part of the plot because it really did help to Safe Words enhance the mystery and some of the secrets It was skilfully doneSnowy River Man is a verynjoyable story populated with believable characters that possess a real chemistry His To Claim (McBain Brothers Alpha, even when they re at loggerheads I felt as though theirvolving relationship throughout the story was perfect as both of them had to overcome some preconceived ideas and share some secrets and also accept things about the other and how it changed their relationship My only uibble is that it probably was a bit short there were aspects that could ve been developed The Black Sheeps Baby (Into The Heartland) (Into The Heartland) (Silhouette Intimate Moments, even further and would definitely have carried the story for longer But it s never a bad thing to want of a story If you love romance mystery and magic and a jolly good read I highly recommend Lizzy Chandler s debut novel Snowy River Man For me the strongest parts of the story were the vivid detailed descriptions of the Australian landscape the main character Katrina s psychicxperiences and the Pursuit of Justice emotional connection between
