I m reduced to cut nd pasting line from my earlier review for WW s Earth One Vol 1 for the follow up edition A disappointment there was just too much weirdness nd mood whiplashAbout the only good thing I can mention bout Earth One Vol 2 is the colorful rtwork by Mauette Dungeon of Death and Fairbairn Therere lots of great looking panels nd pages in the book such s Love Rockets a collage where WW is gracing magazine covers Too bad the jerky disjointed story line just isn t on the same levelActually there was scene that made me laugh Late in the story fter Dr Psycho of course he s villain with that name right has improperly influenced Wonder Woman s thoughts WW is speaking t n outdoor Women Power ssembly in Washington DC After being introduced by Gloria Steinem lookalike though she s not identified s such our title character launches into n unexpectedly harsh narchic speech Two reaction shots Steinem looks shocked nd police officer performing crowd control glances round nervously while women cheer re priceless You can find my review on my blog by clicking hereAfter what was certainly the most disappointing story by Grant Morrison yet we finally return to the provocative retelling of Wonder Woman s origin story in this second volume of DC Comics Earth One graphic novel line up It s safe to say that the return of the same creative team to work on this second book of the trilogy is reassuring thought The Hired Man as the sudden shift inrtwork style wouldn t have played positive role on what is lready controversial story rc for Diana Prince With the foundation of this story set in Almost A Gentleman a discourse on feminism patriarchynd everything that shines bright in the news nowadays there s definitely mystery behind Morrison s direction nd where he wishes to bring this series in terms of story telling It s safe to say that Grant Morrison s take on the character is one that won t please the mass unanimously but it does have the potential to trigger some much needed reflection on issues we blatantly discuss in our everyday lives todayFollowing the events in the first volume this graphic novel shows us Wonder Woman trying to change the world outside Paradise Island with her own vision of society melded through love nd peace While slowly becoming n icon for women she lso encounters several different oppositions in various forms nd notably the American government nd it s men filled structure With threats that flourishes in their old ways in Man s World nothing Diana Prince wishes to ccomplish is easy nd everything comes t Here by the Bloods a price Putting behind his nonlinear story telling ways Grant Morrison looks to further develop his clash of ideals through multiple perspectives while still keeping this retellings shocking s possible Will voicing your ideas be enough to convince the world for change or will Wonder Woman need to reinforce her words with ction to get things doneWhile this Earth One series hasn t been too successful in my books it is uite courageous of Grant Morrison to stay loyal to Wonder Woman s character roots nd deliver such story for fans of the hero to indulge The second volume of this series continues to stay loyal to its predecessor but ctually builds up n intrigue that relentlessly tries to keep you hooked even if it doesn t lways connect with the reader The story still shoehorns lot of social issues into play with transsexualism nd terrorism being some examples of ideas being integrated nd uestioned on Bound (Torn Trilogy, a philosophical level While interesting theylways felt like side dishes forced onto the reader to gulp up uickly without ever having the time to savour them It was still fun to some extent to see how Wonder Woman deals with these issues that she has never seen on Paradise Island nd how she strongly believes that they re inevitably the cause of menThe rtwork is still pretty solid nd continues to highlight Diana Prince s confidence nd charisma through her posture nd smile What Yanick Pauette Loyalty and Lies and Nathan Fairbairnchieve is definitely gorgeous to the naked eye nd makes it easy to breeze through their combined The highly nticipated seuel to the #1 New York Times bestselling original graphic novel is here in WONDER WOMAN EARTH ONE VOL 2 from the Fortunes Flames acclaimed creative team of Grant Morrisonnd Yanick PauetteFor years Diana of Paradise Island yearned to leave the only home she knew behind for dventures that laid beyond its shores Now fter fateful meeting with Air Force
Raft without second guessing their designs It sometimes even brought me to gaze t some of their designs for their mere creativity such s the Wonder Niab While some might call it culture ppropriation the context made it slightly ppropriate nd worth wondering how much Wonder Woman needs to do to dapt to international conflicts if she wants to get her beliefs through The vibrant colours nd the large panels which in fact ren t traditional suare panels lso make it Claiming Her a lot easier to follow what s going on without being lost in the narrativeIt s not easy to indulge Wonder Woman that believes that men should kneel to feminism if they want to see world peace but when you ve grown on n isolated island with only women nd have not known ny form of war it s definitely easy to understand why Diana Prince is confident in her ways But what is to come in the next story rc will surely shed light on her understanding on Man s World nd its focus on cultural diversity nd differencesYours trulyLashaan Blogger nd Book ReviewerOfficial blog WHAT IN THE EVERLIVING FUCK DID I JUST READEdit Okay to expand What is it that makes Wonder Woman Earth One so deeply objectionableThe supposed conceit of this trilogy is that it critically engages with Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston s ideas nd reimagines them for the modern era This does not even happen in the slightestGrant Morrison s pproach to deconstructing Golden Age Wonder Woman is to rip Marston s kookiest concepts directly from their 1940s context dragging them from n era in which they were radical Murder Go Round and progressive into one in which theyre backward How Foreign Policy Decisions Are Made In The Third World: A Comparative Analysis and out of step with current feminist discoursend then to point smugly Alcohol Fuels: Policies, Production, And Potential and declare See It doesn t hold upI mean my gosh what searing insight Grant You mean to say that it wouldn t be feasible or realistic to replace ll world governments with global matriarchyMorrison s not interested in understanding Marston Cambridge Modern History volumes 1-5 and his writing in the context of their timend environment He doesn t look beyond the superficial weirdness of the Golden Age comics to unpack the ways in which the stories were radical The Heart Of The Hawk (Book 1) and progressive for their time in telling children that women were men s eualsnd even superiors in every way in telling young girls they could do Spices, Saints, and Saracens: The Egyptian Wanderings of a Dominican Friar, 1483 anything they set their minds to in promoting message of love nd friendship over violence nd rehabilitation over retribution He doesn t bother to reimagine Empire of the Waves: Voyage of the Moon Child any of those ideas or sentiments through lens of modern society The Object of Performance: The American Avant-Garde since 1970 and feminismBecause Morrison doesn t really want to deconstruct Marston He just wants to write story Of Mice and Men about kinky bondage warrior ladies who speak in dactylic hexameternd fly vagina planes because that s what he considers subversive My god the smugness is palpableBeyond that ll the failings of the first volume persist The gender politics re ugly The s re irredeemable monsters Diana remains deeply unlikeable reactionary protagonist who spends most of the book farting round nd wondering whether she should give up trying to teach people nd just force them ll to submit to mind control instead The story itself is half baked I Was Anastasia and poorly paced the result of Morrison trying to cram far too many ideasnd characters into too few pagesThe reimagining of Doctor Psycho Choice of the Cat apparently conceiveds Three Cups of Deceit a criticism for pickuprtists Sparrow Road and other online misogynist communities is so poorly executed that the textctually ends up giving A Banner With a Strange Device: A Novel of Boston a weird legitimacy to these communities vile rubbish pseudoscientific ideasYannick Pauette srt is still beautiful nd he deserves props for his stunning page layouts nd fabulous wardrobe of costume designs for Diana But it remains uncomfortably male gazey with tendency towards portraying women s bodies in bizarrely contorted positions with weird pornfacesOh nd the series is still being edited by noted serial sexual harasser Eddie Berganza HASHTAG FEMINISM I feel like Kevin Sorbo yelling out stage directions DISAPPOINTED Wonder Woman Earth One Volume 2 is your run of the mill Wonder Womansuperhero story Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World a Nazi superwoman threatens Paradis. E Island Diana s mom gotta punch her Doctor Psycho s up to no good Diana s gotta punch him Hmm The story really is that generic nd uninspired Amid The Neural Basis of Free Will all that blandness Grant Morrison continues setting out his submitting to love thing that Wonder Woman s creator was into way back in the 40s Fine but we sawll that in the first book She saves oppressed girls shows up some men she s the boringly unstoppable hero Maxwell Lord is introduced foreshadowing the conflict for the third nd final book in the trilogy but that s by the by Yanick Pauette s rt continues to be glorious nd he definitely draws the best representation of Doctor Psycho I ve seen yet not sure why he looks like Nick Cave though I usually enjoy Grant Morrison s comics but he didn t bring nything special to the table with this one Love will save the world uh huh snore Wonder Woman Earth One Volume 2 proves that sometimes love isn t ll you need While I did enjoy this than I did volume 1 this story doesn t stand on its own It s ll prologue for volume 3 which we won t get for Locked and Loaded (U.S. Marshals, another year I did like Morrison s take on Dr Psycho turning him into cerebral character who is Past Destinies actually psychoanalyzing Wonder Womannd manipulating her instead of just Travels: Collected Writings, 1950-1993 a dude with psychic powers Morrison s obsession with the bondagespect of William Moulton Marston s real life is still off putting If Wishes Were Horses and strange to me Yanick Pauette s cheescakert while very good leaves you with something of n ick factor This Morrison s Earth One ElseworldGolden Age Wonder Woman homage storyline is just not s good s Pauette s colourful nd wesome rtworks but It s still funny read if you take it not too much seriously that Uber Fraulein pin up Oh good griefAnd few provocative touches like the Wonder Burka nd the hilarious Dr Psycho with Nick Cave s features were really good ones for me What disappointment I did not like the first volume of Wonder Woman Earth One so I can t really blame nyone for me not enjoying this one I figured it could not be s bad Rainbow Brite: Starlite Saves the Day as the first onend in fairness it is not but it is close The story or lack of story is boring the whole thing is disjointed A Social History of Modern Art, Volume 2: Art in an Age of Bonapartism, 1800-1815 and jumps from place to place Ictually re read pages not because I enjoyed them but because I did not think that I could have missed so much between pagesTo be honest I really do not understand what the point of this story was I have to say it is probably the most boring Wonder Woman books I have read The main bad guy seems to set out to prove that for ll of her strength nd power Wonder Woman is still just woman nd the worst part is he manages to break herThen just s the story starts to show some promise it ends I hate leaving stories unfinished but I definitely have to consider if I want send ny money on the next book In both volumes this incarnation of Wonder Woman The Unspeakable Mind acts like free love hippy guru then champion of justice I definitely would not recommend this book Wonder Woman Earth One is the worst comic book Grant Morrison s ever written no joke nd I m huge Murder at Beechwood and hopeless fan of the guy The first volume waswful nd the second one follows suit This entire series comes out of Morrison s ffection for cheesy Golden Age comics coupled with n old man s underst My thanks to NetGalley nd DC EntertainmentDC Comics for n eARC copy of this to read nd reviewI love Wonder Woman really love that character so I read this with high hopes They were dashed Badly SPOILERS beyond this point1 Nazis Ask an Astronaut: My Guide to Life in Space as bad guys The entire book world has been SATURATED with the whole Naziss the bad guys thing From now on unless the book is STELLAR I Revelations from Revelation (Mass Market) am deducting one star whenever the Big Bad is the Nazis Stoplready we get it Nazis bad everyone Jane and the Stillroom Maid (Jane Austen Mysteries, against them good Move on 2 Thertist can t draw hands to save their life Wonder Woman has the WORST manold ladytalon hands Crude World: The Violent Twilight of Oil and it is really off puttingnd hard to not see once it is noticed Ruined ll of the rest of the decent rt Everyone else has badly drawn hands too but hers were the worst 3 Also the Big Bad Dude was F Why do people rate something that has not been released yet.
