They believe I m possessed by demons But no I m just able to use my brain I purchased this well written book because I had recently married a disfellowshipped JW and wanted to try to understand where he was coming from and what he was mentally going through since his disfellowshippingInitially I considered joining the Jehovah Witnesses in rder for my husband to be reinstated in the group in addition to being allowed to communicate with his grown JW children nce again however after listening to his past 30 year experiences and reading this book along with a few ther books n the subject I feel like I ve sidestepped entering a nightmareThank you Diane Wilson for your courage in writing this book and sharing your experience with us I highly recommend this book As a former JW raised in the truth for 30 years and now disfellowshipped for 28 yrs I have read many f these kinds Porter Rockwell: A Biography of books fromther former witnesses but this Satire one standsut I was able to relate to many Deflower the Boss of the emotions doubts and the inner turmoil that the author mentionedver and Hebrew magic amulets over in the book Still even after decadesf being ut I have come to the conclusion that I will never ever be truly free f the nagging thoughts and emotional triggers that I still feel from time to time Around holidays birthdays saying cheers bless you Being There or good luck to someone and so manythers I am still surprised how هذه بلادنا: الجواء often when faced with a worldview issue I have to stop sit back and take a second to remove the JW glasses that I evidently still seefeel through I still haven t come to grips with what I believer even if I believe One way that I dealt with the painful and traumatic shunning was to move ut f the country I was fortunate enough to be able to find work verseas in Europe and so began my new lifeI have been back to the States n nly three ccasions But after the last visit to my parents when I was immediately turned away I vowed to never return I know my family loves me dearly And I know that it pains them intensely for me to be in this unforgivable situation It also pains me greatly that they feel this pain The last words I heard from my dear father who was also raised in the truth was we can t understand can we I said no and walked away for the last timeIt has been my sincere desire to try to help him to understand I am not sure how to reach him Witness to the Martyrdom: John Taylor's Personal Account of the Last Days of the Prophet Joseph Smith or even if it is at all possible So I have read and sometimes reread mostf the recommended books R Franz Hassan Penton and the list goes n to try to btain information pertinent to such an endeavorI will put this book n the shortlist as it resonated well with me n the emotional roller coaster ride ne can feel as they go back and forth with the issues f whether it is the truth The War at Home: One Family's Fight Against PTSD or not and whether it is just us not complying The comments from her therapist were also insightful and helpfulI will give a se. Its pervasive intimidating clutches In this probing brutally honest assessment Wilson describes how a childhoodf psychological abuse and lack f self confidence rendered her vulnerable to the seductive doctrines f the Jehovah's WitnessesWhat she reveals about the goings n within the closed Watchtower Society will shock the average person who assumes the polite well dressed people.
I actually thought the book was well written and having grown up in the Jehovah s witnesses religion with both Parents indoctrinated into the Watchtower I could relate to alot f what Diane went through I think next to Ray Franz s book this is probably the best personal account f being a Jehovah s Witnesses that I have ever read I applaud Diane for her courage and her honesty I found myself cheering her n as she slowly Ten Thousand Goddam Cattle: A History of the American Cowboy in Song, Story and Verse overcame her doubts and fears and slowly through her internal transformation found the strength to break the chains that held her captive for so long Once she got past the fear and doubts and believed in herself she was able to movenThe Set Theory, Logic and Their Limitations only criticism I have is that I agree that the uotesf the watchtower articles may have been a little much and took away from her telling her story which is why I nly gave 4 stars However I also appreciate Dr Bergman s commentary and input He helped me to see the emotional and psychological impact the rganization has n people By exposing that it will help people to be able to have the strength to walk away He has not nly helped Diane but he has positively affected the lives The Stringbean Murders of countlessthers who will read this book and because أساطير شعبية من قلب جزيرة العرب: الجزء الرابع of him be able to find theirwn strength to break freeTherefore I think it was important to have Dr Bergman involved in this book I am impressed that he put so much time and effort into helping with this I wish therapist would be Stricken (Asphalt Cowboys, open to learning about these kindsf The Sporty Game organizations and thus they would be able to better assist clients who deal with these sortsf issues I would highly recommend this book and will read it a few times Very interesting A very well written and informative expos American Yakuza II of therganization behind the Watchtower religion A good read for anyone who might be either contemplating joining the Watchtower religion Inventions That Changed the World: Working Wonders or for members already in it who are starting to have some doubts and want to take a fresh andbjective look at it from a perspective Love Onboard: Cupid's Caribbean Cruise of logic and reason as well as personal integrity I bought this book after a couplef very nice Jehovah s Witnesses came to my door I am an atheist but did not know a lot about this particular branch f Christianity although they put a lot emphasis n Jehovah than Jesus Diane s story is mesmerizing and infuriating The Blood Love only drawback was the numberf times despite all the insanity and mental cruelty she witnessed that she still wasn t ready to pull the plug n this life draining cult So it was a little repetitive but this illustrates how powerful indoctrination is They pull you in with peace and love and promises f family and then after your family is in the cult you risk losing them if you leave Shunning is ne f the tools they practice enthusiastically I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know what these smiling mellow people are really thinking I m sure. This tale f mind control the use f fear to manipulate vulnerable people and final escape from a suffocating cult environment is a revealing exposeof a secretive contemporary sect as well as a true psychological thriller Diane Wilson spent twenty five precious years f her life first becoming indoctrinated by the dogma f the Watchtower Society and then struggling to free herself from.
